April 1, 2009
Green is all around and the daffodil’s are out and about. With this comes a busy time of year for farmers as the new lamb’s spring into action and calving starts on the farm.
Spring Farm Fair
On Saturday 18th April 2009 11.00am-4.00pm
Yew Tree Farm will be holding our first ever Farm fair. The events will then be seasonal and will be posted on the website for you to check out.
The Farm and our work changes with the seasons, therefore this is a great opportunity to come and see what we do.
As well as cooking demonstrations, we will also be holding a B.B.Q and have invited other local producers to show off their products.
The Event will include:
• An all day B.B.Q
• Yew Tree Farms’ famous scone making workshop
• Archery-12noon till 2pm
• Kid’s corner- a range of activities and competitions, come and have a go at making felt or building a miniature dry stone wall.
• Guided walks-learn about the ecology and farming of Holme Fell. Includes steep, rough walking (suitable clothing and sturdy boots required) Booking required please call: 015394 41433
• Lamb feeding and animal Petting-a chance to meet and feed our animals
• Open house – a chance for a sneaky peek at our wonderful historic house
• Local and farm produce for sale-the best local produce.
The event should be a great day and is such a good opportunity to see really where and how your food is produced.
Our Tea-room is open from Wednesday 1st April, all week. We will also be changing the menu with the seasons so what out for local and seasonal changes.
As well as having a busy Christmas, Heritage Meats also attended the Country Living Spring Fair in London. A Good opportunity to spread the word of Great Cumbrian Produce, I am pleased to say it went down a treat! We completely SOLD OUT two days before the show finished. A great triumph indeed.
Heritage Meats also have the privilege of working in new ways with Sharrow Bay ‘watch this space!’ Colin Akrigg has 13 years being a Michelin starred chef. “The Sharrow Bay”, is one of the finest establishments in Cumbria. We have the privilege of exclusively supplying them with our own Belted Galloway Beef.
Food for thought: We have recently been experimenting with our Saddle Back pigs and now include our own rather special Bacon and Cumberland sausage on the Bed and Breakfast menu.
We have also introduced a new Breakfast in Bed option for our guests, with great local products perfect for that extra lie in.
For all of you who use and cook with our Herdwick.
We would like you to show us your best Herdwick recipe!
The winning recipe will be featured on the Heritage Meats web-site and the winner will receive a free Herdwick Hamper.
All you have to do is send us your recipe, including the method and ingredients and we will pick the winner.
The closing date for the recipes is the 1st September 2009.
