Yew Tree Farm Open Days
2nd July and 9th July
Ever fancied having a nosy round Yew Tree Farm? Now you can!
Look round the cottage!
Explore the farm!
Taste our scrumptious Herdwick and Belted Galloway meat!
See Herdwick artwork inside our famous barn!
As part of the celebrations of Beatrix Potters 150th year, we’re offering the very rare opportunity to come and view inside Yew Tree Farm cottage and see Beatrix Potter's furniture, ornaments, letters etc.
Beatrix Potter had strong connections with the Herdwick sheep breed, and of course, we famously produce Herdwick meat. Heritage Meats Herdwick Hogget and Mutton is award winning and is sought after by some of Britain's top chefs.
So we thought it would be great to have a celebratory ’Herdy Feast' ... a sumptuous selection of our herdy meat that everyone can try. We will be BBQ-ing our herdy steaks and burgers to perfection and will be offering some of the herdy hotpot that was such a popular signature dish in our tearoom days!
Jon will be doing butchery demonstrations, showing how he prepares different hogget cuts and joints, and giving you fantastic cooking advice and recipe tips too. So you’ll be able to take some hogget home, try it for yourself and discover what the chefs get so excited about!
Also, guided farm tours will be running, so anyone interested can find out more about our animals and how we look after them. And discover fascinating facts about the wildlife and history of the farm too!
There’ll be lamb feeding of course!
These events will run for two days only:
Saturday 2nd July and Saturday 9th July
Places for the house tours and farm tours will be limited and require booking.
There is a charge for the house tour:
£6 per adult (£5 with National Trust membership)
£2 per child (£1 with National Trust membership)
£15 family ticket (£10 with National Trust membership)
Finally, for a short period of time, our beautiful barn (the one with the spinning gallery) will be empty, so we’re holding a Herdwick themed exhibition of paintings and drawings by Jo McGrath and David Sims. Plus herdwick related crafts & goods including Mandy Marshall’s Herdwick Tweed bags and accessories and Herdy Company’s unique gifts, homeware and accessories. Plus some great info from The Herdwick Breeders Society and The National Trust.
